Notes for John Morris:
Morris Family Outline (don't know exact source)-John, went to MIssouri.
Kanawha Co. VA deed book H, p. 126
8th day of November 1831 between Benjamin Hill and Rebecca, his wife, formerly Rebecca Morris to James Hewitt, 1/5th share of the estate of Leonard Morris which belonged to the heirs of John Morris; sold for $200 all interest in estate of Leonard Morris.
Benjamin and Rebecca Hill
This leads me to believe that Rebecca was the daughter of John Morris and that there were 4 or 5 children in the family (one share could belong to John's wife).
Laidley-History of Charleston, p. 64.Among the early marriages in Kanawha areamong the following:
John Morris and Mary Ann Coleman-1796;John Morris and Jane Jordan-1804;John Morris and Jane Brown-1807; John Morris and Hannah Morrison-1802.
CLUE:In a story written 1894 by Thomas Upton Cobbs, the son of another early settler of Kanawha County, Fleming Cobbs, he speaks of John Morris and says "John Morris died in Missouri, in St. Charles County, and was buried where St. Charles city now stands."I don't know which John he is referring to.It is entirely possible that both Johns went to the same area in Missouri, being cousins as they were.
The "other John Morris" who went to MO was John, b. 8/24/1783 who m. Mary Duke (Carol Olinger).
Children of John Morris are:
- +Rebecca Morris, b. Abt. 1805, Virginia, d. Bet. 1856 - 1860, Randolph County, Indiana.
