Notes for Zerah Jones:
Who is the Myraett Jones who married a Bentley?
According to a letter from Walter Jones to Lillian Bartholomew dated 4 Aug 1943 "Grandpa Jones (Zerah) never talked of his past but Grandma said that in 1812 there was a big camp of soldiers near Whitehall, Washington Co. NY and Grandpa tried to enlist. The colonel said he wasn't old enough (he would have been 13) but could be appointed as an aide.He and another young aide were fooling around and Zerah was stabbed in the hip.He was sent home to recuperate but while he was gone the camp moved and he was left behind."
Apparently Zerah moved west with his family, perhaps first in MI and then in DuPage Co, IL.He was a member of the Big Woods Claim Society in DuPage Co. in 1836 along with Cornelius Jones and Reuben Jones. After his wife and two of his children (Daniel and Susan) died of the fever, he returned to Whitehall, NY and married an old friend, Myraett Mead Hibbard. They moved back to DuPage Co. IL around 1838.Zerah was listed as a carriage maker in the town of Winfield, DuPage Co. IL.In 1870 he sold his property in DuPage Co. and he and Myraett moved to PA. where three of their children lived.
Albert, son of one of the Jones brothers, was born in OH so some of them may have lived there.
