Obituary, Palladium-Item, Jan. 10, 1942.Mrs. Winters succumbs at 92.Brownsville, IN-Mrs. Sophia Ellen Winters, alifelong resident of the Brownsville community died early Friday evening at her home 2 days after her 92nd birthday anniversary, which she was unable to celebrate because of illness.She was the oldest resident in this section of the country and the granddaughter of John Quinn, one of the first settlers of this community.
Mrs. Winters, who had been ill about a week, resided at her home here with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Shirkey.She was well known throughout Union and Fayette Counties.
Funeral services will be held at the Brownsville Methodist Church of which she had been a member since childhood.Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery, south of Richmond.
Surviving Mrs. Winters are her sons, Bright of Greensfork, Forrest and Ray of Liberty, and Charles Franklin, who operates 160 acres, a part of the original tract owen by his great-grandfather Quinn, her sisters, Mrs. Mary Taylor Centerville, 85 years old, and Mrs. Louisa Gear, who will be 76 years next month, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
