Mildren Angela Christmas Johnson was born on October 15, 1934 in Atlantic City , New Jersey daughter of the late Ernestine Miles and James Gordon Christman.
After graduating Armstrong H.S. in Richmond Virginia at the ate of 15, she graduated from Virginia Union University B.A.in Education.She later completed her graduate work at Kent University in Union. New Jersey.
She was married to Randolph L. Johnson. Together they raised three children, spoiled and delighted in their grandchildren, traveled and loved.
Angela was employed as a teacher in the Westfield Public School System and for thirty years taught at McKinley Elementary School. She was a teacher's teacher who thrived in the classroom. Her enthusiasm and tireless dedication not only touched and shaped the lives of many children and their families but also garnered her many accolades including the Governor's Award
She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. the Westfield Teachers Association, the NJEAA, NEA and the International Association of Laryngectomees.
Devoted to the Lord, Angela was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church in Roselle for many years. She was a Deaconess, taught Sunday School, ran the Nursery and created posters and bulletin boards enjoyed by all. In recent years she made her church home at St Elizabeth Episcopal Church where she especially enjoyed the annual Mass in the Park.
Mama Angie, as she was affectionately known, like her mother before her, above all else was a MOTHER, abundant in love understanding, wisdom and patience not only to her family but to everyone she knew. A kind and giving spirit she would always take time to send a card or to reach out to those who were sick and shut-in or in need of emotional support. She will be sorely missed.
Deaconess Angela C. Johnson departed this life on Sunday November 26, 2000 at her home with her family at her side.
She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories, her husband Randolph L. Johnson two sons, Anthony Paul Johnson of Roselle and Henry William Johnson of Dallas Texas; a daughter Iva Ernestine Ferrell of Abington Pa. 1 brother James G. Christmas Jr. of Richmond, Va. seven grandchildren one great grandchild and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
