| || Notes for Emma Carolina Michell:|
Daughter of Admiral Sampson Michell of Croft West, Cornwall. He was seconded to the Portuguese Navy and Emma Carolina was born in Lisbon. She was brought to the UK in 1807.She married Sir John Page Wood on 16 Feb 1820 at Kenwyn, near Truro. She gave birth to 5 sons and 6 daughters. Two of her brothers distinguished themselves, Admiral Sir Frederick Michell RN and Charles Michell, the first Surveyor General of the Cape of Good Hope. Emma Wood developed artistic abilities and wrote novels, which helped the family income. Her father in law Matthew Wood, prior to their marriage sent his brother Benjamin down to Cornwall to prevent the marriage thinking the couple too young. However Benjamin failed to do so and married Emma's sister Maria into the bargain!! She was later to be known as Aunt Ben to Henry Wood and Katie O'Shea (Wood). See books about "Kitty O'Shea".
