John, born 9 May 1815; after his father's death he was adopted by General Isaac Hodsdon of Corinth, Maine, and in 1821 he legally changed his name to John Littlefield Hodsdon. John L. Hodsden, a resident of Bangor at his death in 1895, was distinguished for his military and political careers.In military service he attained rank of Major, Major General and Brigadier General between the years of 1839 an d 1861.In 1861 he was elected by the Legislature as Adjutant General of Maine.During his years of service he edited six volumes of "Official Reports" containing eight thousand pages, recognizing all of the state's participants in service.Generally reference as "Adjutant General's Reports" these volumes are an exhaustive collection of historical and genealogical records.
