By 1639, Henry and his older brother Abraham, a minister, had come to Lynn, Massachusetts.Both Pierson brothers were among the forty-some families who moved to Southampton, Long Island, in early winter of 1640, joining the original 'undertakers' who had come to the island in May of that year and there established the first English town in New York.Rev. Abraham Pierson was ordained in Lynn as pastor of the group just prior to their move.
Abraham Pierson eventually moved to New Haven Colony and then to Newark, NJ.Henry Pierson remained in Southampton where he became a leading spirit, particularly in educational matters, and is said to have been the founder of the common schhol system in America.
He served for many years as town clerk and wrote the records with a "clear, bold, scholarly hand".He often was selected to lay out land and locate roads.He also was assessor for several years.Henry Pirson's house stood on the present site of the Presbyterian church, and his land extended to Old Town Street in Southampton.
One early town record entry mentions that "On October 6, 1646, Henry Pierson was censured by the Court of Magistrates for threatening that if any many should strike his dog he would knock him down, and he was made to pay a fine of 10 shillings and to be of good behavior".
In October of 1680, Henry Pierson died at the age of sixty two.Letters of administration were granted to his widow, Mary Pierson, on November 18, 1680.
