Pierre Cresson was born about 1609-10 at Minil La Cresson (Cresson Manor) in Picardy, France.Cresson Manor is a little northeast of Abbeville, which is near the English Channel coast and roughly ninety miles north of Paris.Records call him a "cordonnier" or shoemaker.He went to Sluis in Holland, near the Belgian border and in 1640 was among refugees in Leyden.
In 1657, he and his family embarked at Amsterdam for New Castle, DE, where he purchased some property.The following year Governor Stuyvesant engaged him to go to Manhattan.Pierre returned to Holland on business, sailing from Amsterdam on April 25, 1659 on the ship "Beaver" for his return trip to the New World.
He was appointed Judge at New Haarlem August 16, 1660 and was a Corporal of First Company in 1663 in an expedition against the Indians at Esopus, NY.
Also known as Moy Pier Cresson, Pierre le Gardinier, a gardener of the Prince of Orange, Pierre sold lands in Harlem and moved to the northwest side of Staten Island, NY about 1679.Here he and his son Joshua each obtained grants of 88 acres, surveyed to them in December of 1680.
