Researching my KLEIN/KLINE line of Berks, Union, Snyder, Centre and Mifflin Counties, PA. JOHAN ISAAC KLEIN (January 12, 1688 - November 26, 1774)was one of 10 German land purchasers of the earliest known settlement in Montgomery Co - that of Sulford Township. On September 10, 1717 a warrant was granted to David Powel of Philadelphia, for 3000 acres of land, located between the "Skepeck" and a branch of the "Parkyooman". ISAAC bought 250 acres from Powel's tract. ISAAC was also a signer of the "PETITION OF INHABITANTS OF COLEBROOKDALE, 1728: Petitioning May 10, 1728 for relief of suffering at hands of the "Ingians" at Falkners Swamp, near "Coshahopin". He and wife Sibilla raised 7 children: Johannes (m. Anna Margaretha Schoffer), George(m. Anna Maria), Reichart(m. Louisa Elisabeth), Susanna Margaretha (m. Heinrich Muller), Anna Sybilla (m. Johannes Jurger), Gabriel (m. Elisabeth Dorothea Bitting), Johan Peter (m. Anna Margaretha Eul), and JACOB (m. Anna Maria Brecht).ISAAC, a successful farmer, died in Woxall, Upper Salford Township (Salford Township having been divided into Upper and Lower Salford Townships in 1741), Montgomery Co., PA. JACOB KLEIN, SR (May 4, 1734 - December 29, 1814), JACOB is mentioned by Dr. Charles Fisher in Snyder County Pioneers asa non-landowner resident of Heidelberg Township, Lancaster Co, PA (now in Berks Co, PA) in 1772 and 1773. His name appears on the Penn Township tax list in 1776, and again in 1782 where he was assessed for 300 acres and personal property. In 1762 he purchased a 40 acre tract of land in Amity Township, Berks Co, PA where he lived and worked as a very successful master blacksmith. Along with wife Anna Maria Bright (January 22, 1744 -January 12, 1816), they had 12 children - John (m. Maria Magdalena Sassaman), Mary (m. John Lutz), JACOB JR (m. Catharine Marquart), George (m. Anna Maria Weidner), Samuel (m. Regina Don), Daniel, Ann (m. Samuel Cronrad), Elizabeth (m. Andrew Hauck), Charles, David, Abraham and Catherina (m. John A. Bertolet). JACOB, SR served in the Revolutionary War with Capt. Jacob Rhoad's Co., Pa Arch, 3rd ser, under Capt. William Heyser's German battalion, PA Line. Upon his death widow moved to Mifflinburg, Union Co. to live with her son JACOB JR. Both mother and son are buried in the old part of Mifflinburg Cemetery. Jacob SR is buried in St. Paul's Reformed and Lutheran Church Cemetery, Amityville, Berks Co., PA JACOB KLINE (KLEIN), JR (July 3, 1765 - April 18, 1849) was a stone mason who abandoned his trade to engage in the manufacture of woolens in New Berlin (then Snyder Co). This venture was so successful that he was able to leave each of his children an ample fortune. He was married five times and had a family of four sons: ABRAHAM (by Catharine Marquart) and David T. who were residing in Mifflin County upon their father's death, John of Union Co and Daniel of Centre Co, and two daughters: Anna(m. Jacob Greenhoe),and Susanna(m. David Steese) who predeceased him Major surnames Bertolet, Bricke, Crisman, Grassmyer, Hoover, Hummel, Kauffman, Kleckner, Klein/Kline, Krepps, Longwell, Marquart, Moyer, Ramsey, Sassaman, Spigelmyer, and Steese.
