Owned Pepsi Cola Bottling franchises in Mount Shasta, California and Portland, Oregon.Later became Vice President at Pepsi.
From Mary Lohr's letter of April 23, 1993:
"I don't believe my dad was particularly brilliant but he was motivated. He formed a goal at an early age and never wavered.Because of the depression, he quit school after one year at Auburn Tech in Georgia. However, he studied law via correspondence school (Le Salle) and eventually passed the California Bar.He never practiced as an attorney, but gained a reputation as a labor negotiator with Pepsi. He was also in demand as a public speaker. It must be from him I inherited a love of words (ie. this letter). He wasn't a caring father figure.Actually, any qualities he had in that department went to my sister, who was sickly as a child."
