It was always assumed the John Kuhn was her first husband, but that might not be true. She was 15 years old in 1889, and this note in Annie's autograph book in 1890 was written by John. This note does not sound like a note a husband would write to his wife. He purchased a car for each of his sons and with them and their families, including Joseph's 6 month old baby girl, began in June 1927 a two car caravan from Pa to Washington. It is reported that they dryed diapers by hanging them from the windows of the cars. The sons and families remained in Washington. It is unknown when John returned to Pa, or when or where he married Jennie, although it may have been in Everett, Washington where he worked for a time. A copy of the obit for John Kuhn from The Lock Haven Express 12/22/1936 says no survivors, it also says he was 71 years old when he died. It is unknown why the obit says no survivors. Notes for PEARLE MARGARET KUHN: Notes: Annie gave Peg the name Pearl when she was born. Annie had a hard time caring for Peg with two other young boys ( Joe and Charles, born less than 1 year apart), so Peg went to John Kuhn's parents. When the Kuhn's took her, they renamed her Margaret and thereafter she was called Peg or Peggy. Charles may have been ill or sickly, because he died before 1900. Charles is noticeably missing for a photo that shows just Joe and Peg, when Peg was still a baby---old enough to sit, but not to walk---less than one year. It is unknown if she was ever legally adopted, or if she was a child or adult when this arrangement took place. Ted and Peg lived in Gardenia, Orange Co, CA. At one time, Ted lost his job as a pharmacist. While he was unemployed, he left the house every day with his lunch and pretended to go to work so the neighbors wouldn't know.
