As a retirement hobby I am constructing a geneology site for all descendants of the Kuykendalls and their offspring. The family name originated in the very late 1600s in the New Amsterdam area (New York) and is spelled in various ways; including, but not limited to, Kirkendoll, Coykendale, McCorkendale, Kikendahl etc. The meaning of the name (which is old Dutch) is debatable but largely accepted as "View of the valley".Kij' tn, dal. There are those, however, who insist that it is of German extract and relates to a chicken farm in the valley or Church of the valley. I will be pleased to receive any comments on this issue and look forward to any assistance you might offer in the construction of this web site.Thank You. | |
