He lived in Union County until 1774, before his first child was born, moved to Northumberland County, to John's farm (left to him by his father), moved to Clarion County between 1836 and 1842 (Marie Garman notes) and finally again to Union County.
He served in the military during the Revolutionary War about 1776.
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Christian Shively a tract of mountain land called Dover, dated 22 February 1798, consideration 12 pounds, 18 shillings, and 9 pence. Signed by Govenor Thomas Mifflin, who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
The first cabin built was a rude structure, roofed with bark. For a table, he used the butt of a large log, while smaller ones sufficed for chairs. Penn's Creek was so small then it could be spanned with a fallen tree. Fish and game were plenty and could be had with little effort. He planted corn in clearings used by the Indians for that purpose. All went well until after the battle of Lexington, when the Indians became hostile. For safety, he left that country, which at that time contained but a few families, and returned to his former home with his family, and gave his service to his country. After the Revolutionary War, he returned to his new home and with his own hands hewed the timber for his house and barn which today stands as a monument to his skill and industry. He was married to Catherine, whose maiden name is not certain, but speculated to have been Fought. Seve children blessed their union of whom George, born July 26, 1788 was the youngest (Greene Shively).
Christian writes in his will, his son, John, is to pay interest of $333.33 after death of his father to his daughter, Barbara, for her lifetime. His sons Christian and George are to do the same. Christian kept $333.33 for himself and after his death interest on that was also to go to his daughter, Barbara for her lifetime. Barbara is to be kept by John for one year, then by Christian for one year, then by George for one year, alternately for her lifetime.
