| Theunis's will was dated 08 Nov., 1688, and it was entered into record on 15 Jan., 1689.His widow remarried 11 August, 1691 to Joris Martenszen, of the Walebocht,Long Island.Joris used the surname of Ryerson, and more is shown in regards this family in the Ryerson chapter in this book.Theunis owned a fee on a lot of land lying outside the city Land-Gate on the west side of the highway to the north of the farm of his Royal Highness,afterwards called the "King's Farm" on the south of the land of Olof Stevenson Van Courtlandt,leading to the water side.In 1750 Dey street in Manhattan was laid out through this land, and the street was named in honor of this family.Theunis was a farmer of some means in the new colony.Dirck Sicken was active in the New York Dutch Reformed church, and he appears in their records often as Dirck Siecken, Dirck Theunissen Siecken, and Dirck Sickem.He was witness to baptisms on 19 Oct., 1659, 09 July, 1662,21 Feby., 1674, and on 15 Oct., 1679.Also witness with him on these occasions were Janneken Dey, Beltie Hendricks, and Fytie Hartmans.Dirck was also witness to baptisms in this church on 04 Feby., 1674, 03 Dec., 1681, and on 14 April, 1687.Witness to his baptism in the NYDRC were Aert Willemszen, Jan Lubbertszen, and Annetje Aerts.His last name was on occasion written as Dye, Die, or Day. In his will dated 08 Nov., 1688, and proved on 16 Dec., 1688 (Liber 14A, page 67 New York county Wills), he appointed "My father-in-law, John Schouten, as tutor of my children." |
