Grady:"Julia (Julian) Simmons married Lemuel Casey of Wayne County in 1858.Julia Simmons Casey died near Dudley, NC and was brought to her father's home for burial in an undraped coffin due to the wartime shortage of cloth--a most unusual procedure for the day.Her wedding dress is in the possession of her granddaughter, Esther Potts Wilson.
Lemuel Casey died in Goldsboro, NC, in 1863,while serving with the Confederate Army."

Alexander Patterson of Bladen County married Barbara Simmons.According to the Family History by Malcolm L. Grady, their children were born in Bladen County, but they soon moved to a part of the D. H. Simmons plantation, where their descendants still live.They are buried in the Amos W. Simmons Cemetery, Albertson, NC.
Alexander was by occupation an artist prior to enlisting in the Bladen County Militia at the age of 29, April 26th, 1861.He mustered in as a private and was promoted to Corporal on December 13, 1862; promoted to Sergeant in September, 1863-February 1864.Present and accounted for until captured at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia on May 12, 1864. Alexander was confined at Point Lookout, Maryland until transferred to Elmira, New York, August 3, 1864.He was paroled at Elmira and transferred to Boulware's and Cox's Warves, James River, Virginiawhere he was received February 20th or 21st, 1865 for exchange.
