The Maxwell's were native of England.They immigrated to Ireland and
thence to America in 1805 where they settled in Germantown, Columbia
County, New York.About 1810 or 1813, they moved to Lebanon, Ohio, thence
to Dearborn County, Indiana and about 1840 or 1842 to Morgan County,
Indiana where the father, John Maxwell, died in 1849 at the age of
seventy-four years.Mr. Maxwell was a weaver by trade.
His seven children were Robert, James, William, Henry, Nancy, Ellen
and John.
James Maxwell, the grandfather of the writers of this article, was
born in Dearborn County, Indiana Sept. 26, 1810 and was married to Eleanor
Paden Sept. 16, 1838.To this union was born seven children namely-Mary
Jane, Martha, Eliza Ann, Nancy Eleanor, Prudence Marie, James Harvey and
Nancy Jane.
