Dear Mr. Bean:
I know you are eager to get the records, I have been unable to find adeed
when George Strother sold the land he had purchased from Shadrack Barnes
which has the grave yard.Auite often this happens, but I will keep
searching.At least we know they lived in the Corn Creek section of
Gallatin County.I doubt there would be a grave yard.One of my
Revolutionary ancestors is supposed to be burried (sic) on the farm he
lived on, I know where it is just on the edge of Warsaw, a friend owns the
farm, but there is no family grave yard and I have no idea where on the
farm it was.
I hope the enclosed records will be of some help.

SHAD BARNES DEAD. AN OLD RESIDENT OF TRIMBLE Death Has Been Expected for About Ten Days. (note there is an artist sketch of him) At one o'clock Tuesday afternoon death relieved the suffering of Mr. Shad Barnes.For nearly ten days or since On Dec. 9 his children were called to his bedside and they have constantly attended him since that time.He has not been well for several years and his death may be said to be due to genendebility brought on by age. Deceased was seventy-two years old having been born Sept. 22, 1835. He was born and raised in Trimble county.In 1860 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Jane McClure.His good wife together with their six children survive him.Of these Mrs. Lizzie Hudson, wife of F. W. Hndson, Nathan W. and Charile R. are residents of Trimble county; Emmett L. James L., and Curtis E. are residents of Indianapolis, Ind.Three half brothers, Reuben, Bing. and James of this county, also survive him. Mr. Barnes though never in public life was perhaps as well known as any man in the county, and numbered as many friends as anyone.He "stuck to the farm his fortune."He lived on the same farm all his married life.It was generally conceded that he was one of the wealthiest, if not the wealthiest man in the county. It may be well to add that much of his attention as a farmer was devoted to stock raising and in this he has indeed set a good example.The greater portion of his wealth lies in farm lands, some of the best.We have heard him remark that his ancestors in emigrating to Trimble passed through the great blue grass section of Kentucky, rejecting it for the better watered section.He regretted their lack of fore sight, and truly might he have regretted it for had they have known the value of what they rejected, he might have been truly "A blue grass king." For years he has been known among the men of finance in Trimble and adjoining counties. Early in their career he was made a director in the Bedford Loan & Deposit Bank and in the Deposit Bank of Sulphur.These positions he held until his death. Truly a great man is gone.In his sphere he was Naapoleon.Had his environments been different and his field larger he no doubt would have risen to the requirements of the place and stood the equal of any man around him. the funeral sevices were conducted at the home Thursday at eleven o'clock. Newspaper clipping from Trimble Banner Aug. 1911 DIED SUDDENLY Mrs. Mary Jane Barnes, One of Our Citizens, Dropped Dead at The Home ofF. W. Hudson Mrs. Mary Jane Barnes, aged 70 years, and widow of the late Mr. Shad Barnes, one of Trimble's largest land owners and wealthiest citizens, died Thursday morning of last week (August 24, 1911,) at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. F.W. Hudson, in the Poplar Ridge neighborhood, after an illness of only about twenty minutes. Miss Addie Hudson, the pretty young daughter of Mr. F.W. Hudson, was 21 years of age on that day, and the anniversary of her birth was to have been celebrated as a surprise to her.About fifty relatives and friends had assembled at this pleasant home to do honor to the occasion with hearts aglow in anticipation of a happy day, little dreaming of the impending gloom.Mrs. Barnes, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whom all delighted to honor, and for whom the easy chair was arranged in the most conspicious place, arrived about ten o'clock, accompanied by her son, Mr. Emett Barnes, with whom she lived.In ten minutes after her arrival she was taken ill and twenty minutes later she was cold in death, due to acute indigestion, and a morning of happiness was ended in an evening of sorrow. Mrs. Barnes was an estimable lady, loved by all who knew her, and the sudden extinguishing of her earthly light was a shock and gloom to the entire neighborhood in which she resided.She is survived by six children, who are among Trimble's very best citizens, namely:Mrs. F.W. Hudson and Messrs.Nathan, Emett, Charles R., James and Curt Barnes, together with sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom have the sympathy of many friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Hudson residence Saturday morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. J.E. Wright, after which the remains were interred in the Odd Fellow's Cemetery at Bedford. Another Newspaper clipping about her death appeared a week later with a correction. SUDDEN DEATH Of Mrs. Mary J. Barnes On Thursday morning Aug. 24, 1911 about ten o'clock Mrs. Mary J. Barnes was suddenly called to her reward.Last week we stated that she "dropped dead".This was an error.Mrs. Barnes had been complaining for several days.That morning she remarked to her son, Emmett, that she felt badly.However, she decided to go to her daughter's for the day.On arriving there she found it necessary to lie down.It was soon seen that her condition was serious, and physicians were immediately summoned.She died however, before they arrived, but no doubt she was beyond all earthly aid when she arrived at her daughter's. Mrs. Barnes was the widow of Shad Barnes.Five sons and one daughter are left.They are Mrs. F.W. Hudson, N.W. Barnes, E.L. Barnes, and C. R. Barnes, of Trimble County, J. L. Barnes and C.E. Barnes, of Indianapolis.At the time of her death she was nearing her seventieth birthday.Her maiden name was McClure. Mrs. Barnes was a good woman and the best of mothers.To this fact the love of five stalwart sons and a worthy daughter gives best proof.But to this is added the respect and friendship of a large and highly respectable community. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Wright at the home of Mrs. Hudson.The burial was at the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Bedford. Mrs. Mary J. Barnes passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. W. Hudson, where she had gone that morning to a surprise birthday party given in honor of her granddaughter, Addie Hudson.She complained of feeling badly when she came and had been sick for over a week but exerted herself to go to the birthday party.She was there only a short while before she was taken worse and passed away before medical aid could be summoned.It was indeed a scene never to be forgotten -- the beautiful home decorated in its gala arrite; the dining room a picture in its pink and white dress; the table loaded with its feast of good things, and the guests all ready awaiting the return of Addie who had gone to church at Poplar Ridge that morning, when the Death Angel came up on the festive scene and took dear Grandma Barnes home.It was indeed a fearful surprise one that will never be forgotten and changed the bright anticipations of happiness into a scene of sorrow and sadness. "Twas so sudden", our white lips said, As we gazed on the face of our beautiful dead. Be ready for soon your time will come To enter the golden gate. Mrs. Barnes was the widow of the late Shad Barnes who died about 4 years ago.She was born in Woodford County, Ky., Nov. 29, 1841, and came with her parents to this county when only two years of age.She is survived by six children, one daughter, Mrs. F. W. Hudson, and five sons, Nathan, Emmett and Charles Barnes, of this county, and James and Curt Barnes, of Indianapolis; fifteen grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Barnes was a noble, good woman, and the sweet smile and pleasant word she had for every one will be missed in this community where she spent her life.Her warm heart and tender compassion for suffering made up a character that endeared her most to those who knew her best.She was the best of wives and mothers.No one enjoyed more than she the companionship of her friends, but the one thing for which she lived was the welfare of her children, and her greatest pleasure was to have them with her.And how they all appreciated that mother was shown by their great grief at the loss of their dear one they had loved so fondly.The deepest sympathy to the whole commuity, __________ the daughter to whom she was so devoted and the son who lived with her and to whom mother was his all and where home is now broken up.May her influence abide with them all to inspire them to noble deeds, and may a life so true not be swallowed up in the grave, but may its lovely deeds in the words of the poet "Smell sweet and blossom in the dust". The funeral services were conducted at the home of Mrs. F. W. Hudoon Saturday morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. J. E. Wright.The burial took place in I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Bedford.The pall bearers were her sons, Nathan, Emmett, Charles, Jas. and Curt Barnes and F.W. Hudson.The honorary pall bearers were her granddaughters, Mrs. Mary Coombs, Addie Hudson, Fannie, Willie, Emma Lee and Mary Barnes.The floral tributes were exquisitely beautiful and in such profusion as is seldom seen.
