David Chandler Goforth was born in 1826 in Washington Co. Tennessee, the eldest of John R. Goforth and Nancy B. Chandler's nine children.He was named after his maternal grandfather David C. Chandler. David married Easter Eatmon, daughter of Kincheon and Susannah Eatman, in about 1843.Their seven children were born in Washington Co. Tennesee where they lived on Cedar Creek, about ten miles west of Jonesboro.By 1860 they had settled in Yancey Co. North Carolina.
David C. Goforth, at age 35, was enlisted by Capt. William B. Creasman for service in the Confederate States Army on July 3, 1861 at Burnsville, Yancey Co. North Carolina.He was a Private in Company B29th RegimentNorth Carolina Troops.David was listed on that companies Roll of Honor.
On September 16, 1861 David C. Goforth was transferred to Company K of the 29th Regiment commanded by Capt. Bacchus S. Proffitt.
On May 16, 1862 David C. Goforth, age 36, was given a medical discharge and was suffering from Typhoid Fever, from which his doctor stated he might never recover.His record states:

David C. Goforth a Private, of Captain Bacchus S. Proffitt's Company, (K) of the 29th Regiment of Confederate States Troops, was enlisted by Capt. William B. Creasman, of the 29th Regiment of N. C. Troops, at Burnesville N. C. on the 3rd day of July 1861, to serve one year; he was born in Washington Co. in the state of Tennessee, is Thirty six years of age, 5 feet, 8 inches high, Dark complexion, Blue eyes, Black hair, and by occupation when enlisted a Farmer.During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 days.
"I certify that said soldier was taken sick at Raleigh last winter.Was confined there for a long time.He at last got home and has not been able to return to his company since."
STATION: Cumberland Gap Tenn.

"a long continued attack of Typhoid fever from which he has not and perhaps never will recover.His age and shackled health entitle him to a final discharge."

David Goforth's two eldest sons also served in the Civil War; John W. in the Confederate States Army in 1864-65, and Alfred G. in the Union Army in 1865. In his last census listing David and Easter Goforth are found living in Scott Co. Virginia in 1880. David likely died before 1895 when his wife Easter moved their son Alfred to Texas.
