Field Jefferson (b. March 16, 1701/02, d. February 10, 1765)Field Jefferson (son of Thomas Jefferson II and Mary Field) was born March 16, 1701/02 in Osbornes, Henrico Co. Virginia, and died February 10, 1765 in Mecklenberg Co. Virginia.He married (1) Mary Frances Robertson on April 10, 1732 in Henrico Co. Virginia.He married (2) Mary Hunt on October 31, 1753.He married (3) Frances Robinson on Aft. 1763 in Virginia.
Notes for Field Jefferson:
Field Jefferson, the eldest surviving son of Thomas Jefferson II and Mary Field, had already received a tract of land which had been left to his mother by Major Peter Field prior to his father's death in 1731.Therefore the bulk of his father's estate went to younger brother Peter Jefferson.
November 2, 1726 Field Jefferson purchased 897 acres in Henrico County; on south side of Swift Creek; adjacent Capt. Thomas Jefferson (his father) and James Franklin's line for 4 lbs. 10 Shillings. (Patent Book 13, page 18)
Field Jefferson was mentioned in his father's will as follows:
WILL OF THOMAS JEFFERSON II,March 15, 1725. Recorded April 1731
In the Name of God Amen. I THOMAS JEFFERSON being in Health and perfect Memory, do make this my last Will and Testament in Manner and form following. Imprimis: I give unto my son FIELD JEFFERSON a Mourning Ring of the Value of twenty Shillings.
ITEM. My Will is that if my Son FIELD or his Heirs shall recover the Money I received for those Negros that were hanged that the same be equally paid out of what I have given my Son PETER and two Daughters MARYand MARTHA.
Field Jefferson established a large estate on the north side of the Roanoke River near the Howards, where he operated a ferry for years (shown on Peter Jefferson's Map of Virginia).
On a tithable list for Lunenburg Co. Virginia in 1748, Field Jefferson was charged with Tithe's for the following: Thomas Jefferson, George Farrar, Joseph Aking (Akin), Wm. Edwards, and David Dodd.
