Notes for Daniel H. McArthey:
Dan married Jennie M. Doran, daughter of Samuel Doran and Cornelio Weed, in a civil ceremony in Oconto, on May 9, 1881. Dan ran a tavern, dance hall, and livery stable and was very popular with the townspeople of Oconto. He and Jennie had one son, Charles Herbert, who was called Bert. Following Dan's death, at age forty-two, in 1893, Jennie remarried a Mr. Burnside. Dan is buried in the Oconto Catholic cemetery along with his son Bert and his grandson Justin. There is a very large gravestone and it is interesting to note the spelling of "McArthey".
Dan's son, Bert, was a sponsor to the baptism of his cousin George Dewey, son of Edward, at St. Joseph's church in Oconto on May 15, 1898. The cosponsor was Addie Pecan.
Bert married Catherine Hall in 1906 and had two sons. The first was named Daniel H., after his grandfather, and was born in 1906. Bert may have gone, with the infant, to live on, or near, the farm in Francis Creek, shortly after it's birth. The second boy was born in 1909 and named Justin. Justin died at age three in 1912 and was buried with his grandfather in Oconto. Bert died as the result of injuries sustained in a railroad collision in Stiles Junction in 1909, and was also buried with his father and son in Oconto.
Dan's first son, Daniel H., married Margaret McGrath and lived for some time in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They had one son, named Daniel, in 1927. He in turn had a son named William. Dan is now living in Depere and William in Milwaukee. Margaret died in 1930 and Dan remarried Clarice Watermolen, in Oconto, on October 7, 1933.
