It may be the samedeed that Pharoah andDorothy Riggs filed in Camden and it was dated 1804, and that was the"land that Dorothyinherited from her father, Isaac Riggs, Sr., & Ruth." It was commonpractice to "record deeds" inboth Camden & Pasquotank County. But the Pasquotank Deedbook was a"clue" for the certifiedgenealogist to start with. Update: This deed could not be found.Pasquotank deeds researched.May 1998.Joel Sawyer turns out to be the son of Ebenezer Sawyer in PasquotankCo.* He may still berelated to Pharoah in some connection to our Sawyers. I sent MikeSawyer the Will of Ebenezerbecause it gives a John Sawyer as his son, which may be the John Sawyerthat Mike is lookingfor: Gumberry Swamp.Another very interesting thing I found: In Mike Sawyer's family historyprint-out that his fathersent to me some time ago, I found a George T. Hubbard who married one ofMike's ancestors,Henrietta Permelia Creed, born cir. 1857. This could well be adescendant of the GeorgeHubbard, "Mariner" in the 1860 Pasquotank Census. This George T.Hubbard has an EllaHubbard (dau.) And the George Hubbard in the 1860 Pasq. Census has aMary E. This is who Ithink our Mary Ella Wilson could have been named for.By the way, the William Riley Abbott home in South Mills has been put onthe National HistoricRegister. Did you know that our George Sawyer sold William R. Abbott150 acres of land for$1,000.00 in 1857? This was the land that George inherited from ourGreat-Great-Grandfather,Grandy Sawyer. Also, Mrs. Alice Sawyer in Friendswood, TX, is convincedthat her WilliamSawyer, wife: Ruth Crookhum (Crookman) is the brother of our Grandy. Also, Thomas whobought land from Grandy and gave it to his son Archibald Sawyer isanother of her lines. (Cannotdocument). Thomas may also be a brother to Grandy, b. 1794.River Bridge area - South Mills - 1830 Census "Today known as CamdenIsland."William SawyerThomas SawyerDolly Sawyer, widow of Pharoah Sawyer (Dorothy Riggs)Edmund Sawyer, brother of Grandy, son of Pharoah SawyerGrandy Sawyer, brother of Edmund, son of Pharoah SawyerThey are all living side-by-side in 1830.**We are sure this is Pharoah's sons & his wife Dorothy. "PharoahSawyers' Island" 1818Something new I learned: The island that was created by the Turner's CutCanal that was put into straighen out the kinks in the Pasquotank River below the DismalSwamp Canal is called"Camden Island," cira. 1830. The island was called "Pharoah Sawyer'sIsland," then "GrandySawyer's Island," then "George Sawyer's Island." These are alldocumented in Camden CountyDeeds that I have. This is located at River Bridge.
