Introduction to Descendants of Robert McConahey and Margaret Story

Notes for .:
This work attempts to trace the ancestors of Robert McConahey and Margaret Story who came to America from Ireland in the late 18th century.Much of the assembled data originated from files accumulated by my Father, William Perry McConahey.I have also researched the internet, specifically web sites that detail descendents of John and William Latta both who married daughters of Robert and Margaret Story McConahey.Information has also been provided by Mary Latta Fultz who provided much of the Robert McConahey history to the McConnaughey Society.I have also researched census records and records of cemeteries as well as visiting libraries and historical societies in Crawford and other Pennsylvania counties.
US Census indexed images are available on line for the years 1790thru 1880 and the years 1910 thru 1930.For the years 1890 and 1900 only partial records are available at this time. For the years prior to 1850 only the head of household is listed and only the number of individuals withinage ranges by gender are provided for each household. From 1850 forward individual names are listedfor each household member along with other information depending on the census year.Other information could include age, place of birth, education, race, real estate and personal property values, occupation, mother's and father's place of birth, etc.
THE NAME - It seems that Robert, when he came to America spelled the name McConnaughey but somewhere along the line he changed the spelling to McConahey. As noted by Mary Fultz all the papers relating to him and his family spell the name McConahey. On his grave marker and others in South Shenango the name is spelled McConahey. The only deviation that is found concerns a grandson John, the son of Robert McConahey and Margaret Lackey.John, as an adult, lived in Nebraska and used the spelling McConnaha, but more of him later.
Robert and Margaret had nine children, 7 of whom lived to maturity and raised families of their own.
Many descendents of Robert and Margaret migrated west to Nebraska and Iowa during the 1850's, and their descendents have generally remained west of the Mississippi to this day. Those who went west include:
