Zachariah Taylor Adams was born August 18, 1846 in St. Clair County, Alabama. He was the son of George J. and Louisa Floyd Adams. His paternal grandparents were THomas Robert and Cassandra Box Adams. His great grandfather was George Adams, a Revolutionary War soldier who was born in North Carolina in 1752 and came to St Clair County in 1835. Thomas and Cassandra had arrived in the area by the early 1820's. Taylor enlisted along with his father and brother in the Confederate Army in 1861. He served until wounded in late 1862, losing sight in one eye and most of the sight in the other. He was discharged in February 1863.
After returning from the army Taylor married Sarah Jane Lawrence Blair, daughter of Noah and Eliza Lawrence of Calhoun County. She was previously married to Russell Blair who was killed in the Civil War. She had two children from this first marriage, Walter Chester and Eliza Blair, born in St. Clair County.
Walter Blair 1860-1938 was a farmer and a blacksmith. He was married to Mary "Molly" Phillips and buried in Greens Chapel Cemetery near Cleveland. Walter and Molly had seven children; Willie, who died young; JaElla married Bruton Horton; Birdie who married (1) Roden Tidwell and (2) Lon Dean; Grover married Cathern Green; Ida Bell married Ed Montezuma Posey; Waitie married Earl Dean; Dewey married Thelma Bullard. They had twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren and nineteen great-great grandchildren.
Eliza Blair never married. Four of Taylor and Sarah Jane's children were born in St. Clair County; James Rankin b. 1865 married Josephine Wyatt. He was a farmer in Nectar before moving with his family to Louisiana. Their children were: Norena, Taylor married Grace Johnson; Henry married Nettie Ashire, Myrtle, and Ollie.
Nancy A. Medley (1867-1892) married Samuel Perry McCay. Theyt lived in Dallas, Alabama and are buried in Bethlehem Cemetery. They had five children: Timothy C., Minnie Beulah, Noah Judson, Ella E and Julius Benson.
George Noah (1870-1941) married Nellie Josephine Noble. They lived in Cleveland and other places in Blount County where he farmed. They are buried in Pine Bluff Cemetery in Locust Fork. They have six children: Waitie married (1) Dee Head and (2) John L. Marsh, Lillie married Jim Glasscock, Velma was married to Luther Blackwood, Bessie never married, Eula married Iva Adams, and Otto who married Alma Malene Adams. They had thirteen grandchildren, fifty-four great grandchildren, sixty-nine great-great grandchildren and sixteen ggg-grandchildren.
Henry Robert Adams (1873-1961) married Susan Malinda Noble. They lived in Bangor and Cleveland. He operated a grist mill, worked in a cotton gin and farmed. They are buried in Cleveland Cemetery. Their children are: Edgar, who died young, Bura who died young, Grady Esther married (1) Esther Blackwood and (2) Exel Beasley, Vida never married, Nellie married (1) Homer Glasscock and (2) Clyde Gibbs, Irene married Curtis Chappell, Bonnie married James Cleo Pass, Alma married Otto Adams, Edithdied young and an infant.
Henry and Susan had thirteen grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren, thirty three gg-grandchildren, and six ggg-grandchildren.
Taylor and Sarah Jane had four children after they moved from St. Clair County to Bangor in Blount County.
Thomas Aleck (1875-?) married Mae Head. They had three children: Onnie, Orville, and Ocie. They lived in Cleveland where they farmed.
Pinkney Rufus (1878-1943) married Mary Emmaline Green. They lived in Nectar where he was a farmer. They are buried in Nectar Cemetery. Their eleven children are: George Grady (1904-) married Vida Marsh, Julius Benson married Lettie Aislee Chambers, Ruby married ? Braswell, Walter (1910-) never married, Pearl B. (1913-1978) married Lee Edward "Ponto" Smith, Charlie Crawford (1915-1996) married Clara Deloris Lake, Raymond (1918-1988) married (1) Ovell Jett and (2) Emma ?, Timothy C. Byars (1920-1967) married Margaret Kathleen Washburn, Ellie James "Fat" (1922-1993) married Dorothy Lucille Johnson and Claude (1927-1994) married Mary Elise Thomas. Rufus and Mary Emmaline had forty-eight grandchildren, ninety-severn great grandchildren and twenty eight gg grandchildren.Columbia Augustine (1882-?) married M.C. "Mac" Bynum. They lived in Greensboro, Alabama. Mac had three children by his first wife and he and Columbia had one daughter and two great grandsons.
Artie (1887-1952) married John James Garren. They lived on a farm in Nectar and are buried in Nectar Cemetery. They had three sons, Harris Thatcher married Ida Nancy Holt, Woodrow Thomas "Red" married Marjorie Hudson, and Ralph Benjamin who married Mary Elizabeth Reese. They had nine grandchildren and eleven greatgrandchildren.
