Notes for John "Jack" James Peters:
Dear Searchers,
My mother's youngest brother, John Peters, passed away this morning, Jan.30, at 5:00 A.M. at Belleville General Hospital at Belleville, Ontario, Canada. We used to talk every Saturday morning for many years, as I had the cross Canada bundle. He loved to talk about the Toronto Argo football team and the CFL.He also loved his hockey. He was married to my Aunt Curean but had no children. He was my mother's youngest brother, and all of the siblings have passed away.I just got the word in an email from Ontario from my cousin June.I had been searching what had happened to his mother Adelaide for many years, so that he might know what happened to her when she had left Tomstown, Ontario in 1932.Now, I am sure that he finally knows what happened to her.Uncle John had gone into the hospital on Jan. 20 as he was feeling dizzy and confused. That it was about exactly 10 days and he died.He had been in a retirement home at Belleville and was about 82 years of age (born in 1923, July 18).He had come out to Victoire for his 80th birthday and stayed for several weeks with my cousin June.As a young man, he had grew up in Northern Ontario at Tomstown in the poverty of that time.He had worked out in the area for several years. He had enlisted in the army but didn't get overseas. Finally, he had moved to Toronto in the late 1940's and took a job with Henry's Cartage there and held the job until retirement. His wife, Curean, had passed away several years ago at Belleville.Uncle John stayed in the apartment for a year or so after and then made the move to the retirement home.He was mem 2 on our telephone pad and all we had to do to contact him was push mem 2 and he was there. When the NHL strike was on, he was very disappointed as he loved to watch his Toronto Maple Leafs and hear about them.He was also an avid Church attender at the United Church at Belleville. When Aunt Curean was alive, they went to the Catholic Church, but he switched back to his roots when she had passed away.
I am relieved for him as he had experienced a series of small strokes which had robbed him of his mental facaulty. But perhaps, lots was going on in that almost waking coma.I think that he was feeling a lot of duress as he couldn't get up without falling. But I am saddened as all things seem to come to an end and we won't be able to talk anymore with him.Marcy used to also speak with him, just about every Saturday morning. We knew his schedule at the retirement home and knew just when to call him when he would be finished a certain meal.We always had to keep in mind the time difference between Victoire and Belleville.
Last night, I couldn't seem to go to sleep after doing the store. We had gotten back about 9:30 P.M. from the store. But it was about 2:00 A.M. before I was able to sleep.I was reading the war book, the Signals War (war experiences of young Canadian soldier).
Finally, I just decided to pray the rosary and I fell asleep in the midst of it.
Bye for now,
Brian
