Notes for Thomas Joseph Dillon:
Thomas Joseph Dillon Jr. Son of Thomas J and Rose Belle (MCGEE) Dillon was born in Dubuque Iowa on February 7 1898.
Thomas attended Cathrdral School in Dubuque, graduating with the class of 1912.
On January 2 1916, he married Eva Mrytle Phelps daughter of Fred Phelps and Emily Hodgen Phelps. They were married in Galena, JoDaviees County IL.
He was listed as 22 yearsof age her as 19. It would later be found out that he was 16 she was 13. There was three children born to the union, Myrtle Helen Dillon born October 1, 1917, Arthur Jospeh Dillon Born 2 July, 1918, and Constance Lorraine Dillon born 4 August 1919.
Of the three only Constance Lorraine is to be the only one who lived to be an adult.
On January 22, 1920 Eva Dillon was granted a Divorce from Thomas Joseph Dillon on the grounds of Crule and Inhuman Treatment.
During the January term of 1920 in the Dubuque County, Iowa Court session, the proceedings go as follows:

Plaintiff States;
1. That she is now and has been for more than one year last past a resident of teh State of Iowa, residing at Dubuque, in Dubuque COunty. That she has resided at this place continously all of said time.
2. That the residence of said plaintiff as above set out has been in good faith and nor for teh purpose of securingadivorce.
3. That this application is made in good faith and for teh purpose set forth herein.
4. That the plaintiff and defendant were married at Galena Illinois, on January 2, 1918, and have lived together as husband and wife until the 19th day of October 1919.
5. That during said time plaintiff and defendant so lived together as husband and wife this plaintiff conducted herself tword her said husband as a duitiful and loving wife.
6. Thatt there were born to plaintiff and defendant so the issue of said marriage three children, the oldest two dying in infantcy, and the youngest, Constance Lorriane Dillon, born August 4, 1919, who now resides with said plaintiff.
7. That since the marriage of plaintiff and defendant that the defendant has been guilty of crule and inhuman treatment twords the plaintiff such as indangering her life, in that he stated that he charged her with going out and being intimate with other men. That he has in the presence of others, used vile and abusive launage tword her. That he has threatened her on various occasions to strike her, stating at time to time that "if she didnt look out he would finish her" That when teh first baby was born, he refused to let her bring the baby to a doctor for teh baby at time when the baby was ill. And that the he refused to allow the plaintiff to call teh Doctor for herself at the time when she was illsince the last baby was born. and refused to allow her to incur any medical expense either on her behalf or that of the child. That she has had to go to her parents, sisters and family for security, and compassion.
All of which treatment has greatly impaired the health of said plaintiff and has greatly endangered her life.
8. Since October 19, 1919 this plaintiff was forced and compailedto leave her husband and her home because of the defendants ill treatment twords her. since which time she has been staying with the plaintiffs sister at 278 Julien Ave. in this city.That since the plaintiff was compelled to leave her home and since doing so has saught shelter in teh quaters of the home of her sister, said defendant has been harassing and threating her and has threatened to take the baby away from her and bring it to his mother, he also said that it was his intentions to take this baby away from its mother, this plaintiff and remove it fromteh state.
Repraise for Plaintiff;
The plaintiff prays that a tempoary writ of injunction issue aginst the defendant restraining him from depriving the plaintiff of teh coustody of said minor child, Constance Lorraine Dillon, and from harassing or interfearing with any member assisting htis plaintiff during the period of this action, and that the custody of said minor child be awarded to this plaintiff.
Plaintiff for her prayers that she may be divorced from this defendant. that she be granted teh custody of her said minor child Constance Lorraine Dillon, and that upon final hearing she be allowed the sum of $40.00 per month as perminate alimony ans that execution issue to make the same. and for such any further releif as may be suitable in teh premises and for costs. That I Eva Dillon Yokom, the mother of the above named Constance Loraine Dillon, a minor child born August 4th 1919 hereby declare that my present residence is at teh Austin Apartments in teh City of Dubuque, Iowa; that hte father of said minor child was Thomas Dillon, whose present residence is unknown to me; that I was granted a decree of absolute divorce from said Thomas Dillon and thereunder was allotted the custody of said minor child by the District Court of Dubuque County Iowa the record of such decree appearing on page 498of Divorce Decree Rocord I of the official records in the office of teh clrek of court.
In full faith that I am conserving the future welfare of my said minor child I hereby consent to teh adoption of the said Constance Loraine Dillon and I do hereby give in adoption by William L Yokom, and Elenor Yokom, husband and wife whose residence is # 325 Curtis Street in the City of Dubuque, Iowa.

7. That since the marriageof the plaintiff and defendant the defendant has been guilty of crule and inhiman treatment towards the plaintiff such as to endanger her life, in that he has on numerous occasions charged her with going out and being with other men. That he has in presence of others used vile and abusive launage toword her. And on various occasions to even strike her.
On many occasions he threatened to strike her. that when the first baby was born, he refused to let her bring the baby to the doctor or call a doctor for the baby. at times when the baby was ill. That he refused tolet the plaintiff call a doctor for the baby now living and has refused to allow a doctor to be brought to the baby. He also refused to let a doctor attend to his wife ill since the last baby has been born. and has resided to peril of no medical assistance on behalf of her or the baby.
She has been assisted by her parents and sisters since the timeof the babys birth, and these people have had to provide propper clotheing for her and the child. All of this strif and peril have endangered the life of the plaintiff and her child.
8. That on October 19, 1919 this plaintiff was forced and empoweredto leaveher husband and herhome because of the defendants ill treatment towords her since which time she and the baby have resided with the plaintiffs sister at 878 Julien Avenue in this city. Thatsince the plaintiff was compeled toleave her home as aboved stated and seek quaters in the home of her sister, and has since recieved threatening and harassing calls from said defendant. The defendant has since threatened to take the baby from her and take said child to his mother. He stated that he intended to remove the child from her and remove fromteh state so the mother wouldhave no contact withthe child.
Herefore the plaintiff prays that a tempoary writ of injunction issue aginst the defendant restraining him from depriving the plaintiff of the custody of the sais minor child. Constance Lorriane Dillon, and from harassing or in any manor interfearing with this plaintiff during the pending of htis action. and that the custody of said minor child be temporaly awarded to this plaintiff.
Plaintiff for her prays that she be granted the custody of said minor child Constance Lorriane Dillon, and that upon the final hearing she be allowed the sum of $40.00 per month as permenet alimony for herself and minor child and that she have judgement for alimony as that execution issue to make the same and for such other and further relif as may be equitable in the premisis and ofr costs.
