Notes for Lloyd Patten Wimmer:
The following information is given, to the best of my memory, of things told to me by family members (Bobbe Wimmer Kidrick)
Lloyd was donsidered one of the best teamsters in Grand County and worked for his father, during the time when they were hauling from the Big Indian Mine, south of Moab.To the best of my recollection, I believe I was told that he had either a crippled hand or was missing one hand, which makes his prowess as a teamster even more impressive.
One rather humourous story told about him, had to do with a small dog that he always took with him on the trips back and forth. As the story goes, Lloyd would try to have the dog ride beside him on the wagon box, but the little rascal liked to run along side.If one is at all familiar with the heat of the desert then it is easy to understand the following;Feeling sorry for the little fellow, Lloyd cut the fingers out of an old glove and fashioned "boots" to put on the little dog's feet. This worked well, for the most part, until the young man missed the dog and looking back down the trail, could see him, sitting in the shade of a bush, holding one paw up off of the ground. He had lost a 'boot' and was waiting patiently for his master to come back with a replacement!
