Notes for Robert Bolling: Robert was the son of John and Mary (Carran) Bolling. In 1645 they lived at Allhallows, in Barkin Parish, Tower Street, London. Robert emigrated to Virginia on October 2, 1660, when he was only 14 years of age. He later became a merchant with his own company, called Robert Bolling and Company. He acquired large tracts of land, one being Kippax, his plantation, by mostly purchasing it. However, he did receive various land grants between 1682 and 1706. These grants involved acquiring one thousand, seven hundred sixty acres of land in the Bristol Parrish, fifty acres in Henrico County Virginia, and one thousand nine hundred seventy- three acres in Prince George County, Virginia. His family resided in Charles City County, Virginia, on the south side of the James River in what is now Prince George County, Virginia. Robert served as a justice, high sheriff, and surveyor in civilian life; however, he was also a Colonel and Company Lieutenant in the army in later years.
