Ralph Smith (b. Abt. 1610, d. 1695)

[Smith Ancestors.FTW]
The following is from "Ancestors and Descendants of Elisha Smith of Greene County, New York, USA" compiled by Wayne Wright.
Ralph Smyth was born probably 1610 in Hingham, County of Norfolk, ENGLAND.
He came from Hingham, ENGLAND to Hingham, Massachusetts, USA in 1633. Daniel Cushing's record in New ENGLAND Genealogical Register (v. 26, p. 190) places a figure 1 by his name indicating that no other member of his family accompanied him.1,2 He probably came on the same ship with the Edmond Hobart family, setting sail near the end of March, 1633 and landing at Charlestown about the middle of the following May.2
He was living in Hingham, Mass. by 1637 when he drew a house lot on Bachelor Street. As late as Sept. 22, 1652, Probate records referred to him as "Smyth of Hingham."1,2 During his time in Hingham he married and had 4 children.1
By 1654 he had removed to Eastham, Plymouth Colony, Mass.(Cape Cod).1,2 His daughter Deborah was born there in that year. In 1657 he took the oath of fidelity. He was constable in Eastham, 1660 to 1664. He was engaged in trading with Jesse Hobart of Hingham.
He died in Eastham about 1685. Plymouth Colony records has the following court order, "Oct. 27, 1685-Administration is granted ... to Grace Smyth, the relict of Ralph Smyth, and Samuel Smith, son of said Ralph Smyth, all of the town of Eastham in the Colony of Plymouth, in New ENGLAND.1,2,3
No record of the date of Ralph Smyth's first marriage is known. It is felt his first wife was Rebecca Hobart, daughter of Edmond and Margaret (Dewey) Hobart. 2
His second wife was Grace Hatch, widow of Thomas Hatch. She survived Ralph.
Ancestral file lists Ralph Smith as married to Rebecca's older sister Elizabeth and one other wife. It lists Rebecca as married to Edward Bangs and one other person. This is a discrepancy and I feel the way I have written it is more substantiated.
