|In the United States, I am researching the surnames of NICHOLS, WILLETT(OIULETTE), GRIGWARE. In Canada, I am researching WILLETT (OIULETTE).In Scotland, I am researching the GRAY, MCDOUGAL and Ferrier surnames. In England, I am researching the names of EWART, WHETTON, HAYWARD, WILLS and ALLEN.In Northern Ireland, I am researching the names of EWART and CAMPBELL. |
This all seems complicated, but here goes...
My Great-Great Grandparents, Paul and Rosilla NICHOLS (both born in Canada) had nine children: James, Joseph, David, Lucy, Daniel (b. 1843), Louisa, Frances, Margaret and Milener (according to the 1860 Mooers census, all were born in New York).
Daniel married my Great-Grandmother, Julia Ann GRIGWARE (born in PC, Canada in 1843). In 1878, Daniel and Julia Ann moved to Ludlow, Massachusetts. They had three children: Ellen, Hiram, and Amos Paul. Daniel fought in the Civil War and died in 1927. Julia died in 1908. They are both buried in Island Pond Cemetery in
On the other side...
My other Great-Great Grandmother was Sophia WILLETT (may be spelled differently). She married Joseph NICHOLS (b. 1840). He was named after his father (Joseph NICHOLS). According to family talk, Joseph (Jr., if you will) was married to Sophia's sister first. The sister and Joseph had two children (possibly more), Albert and Charlie. Joseph and Sophia had six children (the line differentiating which sister the children belonged is vague).
The six children are Emile, Paul, Amos, Joseph (b. 13 February 1871), Delbert, and Emma who was said to have died of Polio. Joseph (the father) died on 30 December 1900.
My Great Grandfather Emile NICHOLS married Ellen NICHOLS on 24 December 1902 in Palmer, Massachusetts. Ellen was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on 15 May 1879. Emile was born in Mooers, Clinton County, New York on 2 June 1880. They had three children: Albert (b. 2 November 1903), Wolford (b. 1 June 1912) and a baby that died at birth (some say was male).
Ellen died at 33 years of age 3 November 1912. She died of Typhoid Fever and is buried at the Island Pond Cemetery in Ludlow, Massachusetts. On 1 June 1914, Emile married Mary Frances Bates at Indian Orchard Methodist Church. Rev. Briggs was the officient.
My Grandfather, Wolford, married Gladys Gray on 23 June 1934. They had three sons: Douglas, Bruce and Richard. Wolford died on 5 March 1971 of lung cancer.
My EWART line as I know it now, comes from Belfast, Northern Ireland and then goes to Liverpool, England. My great-great Grandfather Frances James EWART was born in Belfast, Ireland abt 1841.His wife, Sarah ?, was also born in Belfast abt. 1838.
They had 4 children: Elizabeth (abt 1866), Frances (abt 1871), William (abt.1873), James (my Great-Grandfather) (abt. 1876).William was born in Belfast, Ireland, but the other three children were born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
My Great-Grandfather, James, married Jane Campbell. Jane was born in Carrickfergus, Ireland on 16 September, 1885. They had 4 children: James, George, Samuel Irvine (my Grandfather) (b. 2 November 1908 in Belfast, Northern Ireland), and Annie (b. 5 May 1910 in St. Aiden, Belfast, Northern Ireland).
From what I understand, James and Jane moved to Belfast so James could work as a shipyard worker. I am not sure in what order they moved from England to Ireland and possibly back again. This is where I am stuck. If anyone has any thing that can help with tracking, that would be great.
Oh, my Grandfather's birth records were destroyed in World War II so I don't have them to help me.His death certificate did not give me much more info than what I had.
This is as far as I would like to go at this moment to protect the privacy of my family.
