Euphemia wrote a beautiful poem describing her hurried rush to her dying mother's bedside and thehome that she had left twenty years earlier, hoping to arrive before her mother died. She didn't make it in time.Too long to reproduce in its entirety here, the final stanza captures the essence:
Long I'll remember my journey home
In nineteen hundred and five
Oh, could I have just but taken it
With father and mother alive
Too late now, there's no use murmuring
Sure my next journey home will be
When the death angel comes and whispers
"Euphemia, I now send for thee".
