Deed Bk H, p51, John Hall of Chartham Co, frees his slave houseman, Harry, Apr 6, 1789.Wife Eliza Ann, consents.Refers to marriage contract dated March, 1788 conveying certain property including said slave to John Carraway Smith of SC and John Orrick of Savannah, Gentleman as trustees for Ann Eliza Elliot (now Ann Eliza Hall, wife of said John Hall).Trustees consent to the emancipation Apr 8, 1789.
p236-Dec 31, 1801, Mr. James Belcher to Mrs. Ann Smith, widow of John Carraway Smith, last Thursday.
p241- From "The Columbian Museum and Savannah Advertiser", Savannah Death notices:Mar 21, 1800, Last Saturday, John Carraway Smith, Esq., a gentleman who held a Captain's commission in the southern army during our Revolutionary War and particularly distinguished himself as a soldier and a patriot.The Cincinnati Society attended the funeral with others of his compatriots.
