Jasper Co., Ga., more likely Columbia1, and died June 19, 1879 in Randolph Co., Ala.2.He married (1) MARY GOODSON January 06, 1833, daughter of JORDAN GOODSON.She died Bef. 1850 in Arkansas.He married (2) SARAH S. HARRIS Bef. 1850, daughter of BRITTEN CAPRIL HARRIS.She was born April 09, 1828, and died June 07, 1919.

Samuel McDonald, Jr. of Fayette Co. participated in the "Gold" Land Lottery of 1832, winning 40 acres in District 3 of "Cherokee" Co.He lived then in Griffin's District in what is now Spaulding Co. and was formally granted the land December 11, 1840. He was drawn for jury duty in Fayette Co. in 1836 (Hist. by C.C. Cary, p. 19). He and his family moved to Arkansas sometime around 1841, roughly following the Trail of Tears by which the southeastern Indians were removed to then Indian Territory.Napoleon Whitten McDonald was born there, and Samuel's wife died on the way back, being buried in the Great Mississippi Swamp south of Memphis. He remarried and owned a farm near Wedowee in the Lamar section.Samuel McDonald is mentioned in "Ripley's Believe it or Not" for composing (and carving?) his own unique epitaph.The marker is in Good Hope Cemetery (Old Shiloh) near Wedowee, Ala, two miles from Graham, on Rt. 48.His name appears in the muster roll of November 17, 1864, of mounted infantry volunteers for Capt. Larkin Breed's company in the Civil War.He was 5'10",blue eyes, dark hair, dark complexion. Family legend says he was a preacher.His death record occurs in the 1880 Randolph County Mortality Schedule; the cause listed was dysentery.
