Thomas Coulter had married Rebecca Parks in Roane County in 1815. Her mother, Ruth Parks, left slaves to her Coulter grandchildren that were deeded in 1828. One grandson who was named for the Parks side of the family--- James Parks Coulter--- received a young male slave. Margaret Coulter was given the slave Keziah and Catherine Coulter received the slave Melinda.
