The Pearce name has strong West Country links, with the 1881 Census showing a heavy concentration of Pearces in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. However, the ancestry of this Pearce family has only been traced back to Shropshire in the first half of the 1800's where William Pearce and children were involved in mining ironstone and coal. These mining skills were brought to the Yorkshire coalfield in the second half of the 1800's, by William Pearce the son of William.
Today, the children and grandchildren of G. Martin Pearce and his wife Molly C. Sands, can be found on two continents, in Canada, the USA, and the UK.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has knowledge of the Pearces in Shropshire early 1800's, the Keys in Lincolnshire in the first half of 1800's, the Mellors and Booths in early 1800's in Holmfirth, Yorkshire.
