Notes for Frank Stanford Persons:
Frank Persons set up his home in a barn-like red brick house in Montgomery, AL on Adams Street. He believed in strict discipline and sent his kids to a private high school, Sarke University School, opposite the Alabama capitol.his kids bunked on an open sleeping porch on the second floor. He believed in open-air sleeping the year round and in cold showers every morning.
He started out in business life as a drugstore clerk and eventually bought the store.Determined to give his boys a better start in life, he held school every night.Eachkid had to recite 25 words from a spelling book.If he missed on word, he started over again. Two misses meant a spanking.
As soon as they were old enough, his boys went to work in the store where, under his supervision, they learned to mix - by the barrel - the specialty nkown as "Persons Purgative."
