Notes for WILLIAM MARION JONES:
William Marion was a farmer and stockman and one of the first settlers on Odell Creek. He was accidently killed while deer hunting with his son Ben in 1887 on Odell Creek. William Marion left his deer stand and was walking through the woods, when Ben saw him move behind some bushes, thought his dad was a deer, and shot him.This was at 3:00 p.m. on Sept. 16, 1887. William died the following day at 2:00 p.m. and is buried in the Jonesville Cemetery in Angelina Co. beside his father Martin. He was a farmer, stockman, and merchant and owned original land survey just north of and adjoining Martin Sr. survey. His Brand was " 28 " the year of his birth. He volunteered for service in the Confederate Army.on May 31, 1862 at Homer, Angelina Co., Texas. He was in Co. D., Hubbard's regiment. 22nd. Texas Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded in the arm at the Battle of Mansfield.
Note; William and his family are on the 1850 Polk Co., Texas. Census residing two houses down from John Hodges Jones and Lucinda. They are residing next door to James and Elizabeth Maribe (Jones) Brashears.

He served under Capt. William H. Cleaver in CSA. Cals' Brand was 31, the year of his birth, and his Brand was registered on Feb. 2, 1852 in Angelina Co., TX. Cal was the Angelina Co. Tax Assessor-Collector from 1850-1858.

" Calloway Taylor Jones, my great grandfather, was born about 1831. He married Julia Ann Berry, daughter of Samuel Berry and Elizabeth McMurtry of Franklin County, Tennessee. They had several boys and two daughters.
Julia Ann was their youngest daughter, she and Calloway Taylor Jones had two sons, William Martin Jones and Arnold Calloway Jones (my grandfather). William Martin Jones married Susan "Sudi" H. Richardson and Arnold Calloway Jones married her sister Ida Narcissus Richardson. Arnold Calloway Jones was born May 31, 1866 and died October 25, 1937 and was buried in Knight Cemetery. Ida Narcissus was born July 22, 1867, died April 27, 1889 and is buried in the Berry Cemetery. Arnold Calloway had several children, but their only surviving children were William "Willie" Leon Jones (my father) and Edgar Jones.
Edgar Jones was born September 26, 1887 and died January 21, 1920. He married Effie Summerall, they are both buried in the Glendale Cemetery. They had one child, a son Willie, who died in infancy.
My father, William Leon Jones was born February 7, 1883, died June 20, 1954. He married Hallie Lee robinson of Polk Co., Texas. She as born in September 26, 1887, died February 7, 1977, buried in the Knight Cemetery. They had twin daughters, Lillian and Vivian, born August 6, 1905.
Arnold Calloway Jones was first married to Ida Narcissus Richardson. His second wife was Richard "Richie" Permelia Knight, she was born March 12, 1871, died January 10, 1958, she and Arnold Calloway had only one child, Harry Frederick Jones, who married Nancy Walker and they had two girls, Julia Jeanette and Deda Ray Jones, each of whom married and had several children."

Notes for JOHN HENRY JONES: John Henry lived with his older brother William M. after the death of their father Callaway Taylor Jones who died on Aug. 1, 1874. William was made Johns' Legal Guardian in 1874 and he was in Williams' home on the 1880 Census as being 10 yrs. old. Their mother Julia had remarried a Mr. Renfro after Cals death. Julia Ann Berry died around 1880. We will assume that either John did not want to be moved about so he stayed with his older brother or he might not have cared for his new step father ?? |

He may have been killed when his brother Eli was killed in the Gilly War. I do find him listed as J.D. Windham with spouse Delphia Ann on the 1870 Brown Co., Texas Census. J.H. Montieth age 24 Texas, is also residing in the home and listed as raising cattle. Residing as J.L. on the 1870 Brown Co., Texas Census.
