Notes for Jacob Brown:
Graves listed together for Jacob and Abel Brown at Palestine Church of Christ Cemetery per "Noble County Cemeteries", but have not found cemetery.Jacob's birth date on cemetery listing was 1782, date of death 1868.
The History of Noble County, OH stated Jacob was a native of Virginia who came from Belmont County to Beaver Township in 1819.A Jacob Brown birth was listed in Northampton County [PA] Births, p. 26; parents Georg & Susannah, but seems more likely the History... Jacob Brown is the correct link.

Our Brown Roots
As happens occasionally in the wonderful world of tracing family roots, one of our until-now-unknown cousins, Jack Morrison, sent me an e-mail from his home in San Rafael, California.
What we have in common is we share the same great great great grandfather, Jacob Brown.
Jacob Brown was born January 3, 1787 in Virginia. He was one of the early settlers in Ohio, apparently arriving sometime before 1819 as he moved from Belmont County to Beaver Township in Guernsey County in 1819.
On November 3, 1825 Jacob married Mary Keith in Morgan County, Ohio.Mary and Jacob had Abraham "Abel" in 1808 and Squire on September 6, 1809.They may have had other children I have not identified.
You might have caught the gap between the dates the children were born and when Jacob and Mary wed. Delayed "official" weddings weren't uncommon in those early days as couples had to wait for a circuit-riding judge (if there even was one for their territory) to officiate the union. Also, some religions and possible personal circumstances only required an oath to be made between the couple. This ceremony may or may not have been followed up by an "official" rite later.
According to a listing in"Noble County Cemeteries," Jacob and Abel Brown are buried together in the Palestine Church of Christ Cemetery. According to the headstone, Jacob's year of death was 1868.
There is no more information on Mary Keith Brown.
In 1826, Abraham Brown was listed as a pioneer settler of Seneca Township and owner of a 24-sq. mi. lot.He operated a small store on Abraham Rich's farm for a brief time.
According to Guernsey County's 1830 Tax Records, Abraham paid $200 in merchant taxes, which probably referred to the above store.
Able (spelled that way) Brown received a Marietta Land Grant November 13, 1833, for the southwest corner of Section 7, Township 8, Range 7 containing 40 acres and 16/100 in Guernsey County, Ohio.(Cert. #2098, signed 10/8/1834)
Abel Brown married Jane Miller, daughter of Francis and Rebecca (Carpenter) Miller, on January 2, 1834 in Guernsey County, Ohio. They had 12 children.
Because of the commonality of the Brown name, Census tracking was difficult before the 1850 Census which listed Abel Brown, 35; Jane, 32 (noted she could not read or write); Sarah, 14; Mary 12; Joseph 10; Samantha, 8; John, 6; William, 5; Edward, 4; Squire, 2; and Abel, 1.[Derived Jane's birth year from this.]
In the 1880 Census, Abel was listed as Retired Farmer.Age was hard to read (67 or 69); Jane, 65; and son Amos, 22; "laborer". Jane's birth state was listed as Ohio. The next entry was for James Brown, 27, which would logically fit as Abel's son living on the adjoining farm.
Here's one of those interesting genealogical facts: Their last son, Abel Jr., married Nancy Pierce on March 20, 1873 in Noble County.[My mother, Christa Pierce, died March 20, 1972.]
