12 Feb. 1638 grant to William Barker, Marriner, his Associates & Co., 1850 acres in Chas. City County: 600 acres of this conveyed to Barker & Associates by John Taylor, Citizen and Girdler of London, being purchased by him of Thomas Powell of Howlton in the Counties of Suffolk, yeoman, brother & lawful heire of Capt. Nathaniel Powell late of Virginia, deceased.
Know All Men By These Presents that I Will Powell of the Isle of Wight County being at present very sick and weak in body but yet in perfect senses and memory, doe, if it shall please GOD to take me out of this present life, make this my Last Will and Testament as followeth--
First I doe give unto my loving WIFE, Elizabeth Powell, the plantation I now live upon dureing her life (also) all the stock I have unto belonging dureing her aforesaid life and then the said land I doe give unto my sonn John Powell, the Broad Neck at the uper end of my line.Likewise I doe give my sonn Nathaniell from that Neck down the Swamp to my orchard side and the remaining part of this land unto my sonn Jacob; to them and theire heieres lawfully begotton of theire own bodyes forever.
Second I doe give unto my sonn Will Powell and my sonn Thomas Powell all my land upon the hed of Bow and Arrow Swamp to be equally divided betwist them, my sonn Will: to have his first choys to them and heires lawfully begotten of theire own bodies forever.
Third I doe give unto my daughter Elizabeth, wife John Poopes that plantation thay now live upon to them and theire heires forever this being my Laste Will and Testament whatsoever In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale this eleaventh day of December in the year of our Lord God Sixteen Hundred Ninety and Five.
