I am researching the Prendergast family from County Mayo, Ireland. The first generation came to the USA from County Mayo, Ireland in the early 1800's. Thomas Prendergast settled in Cass, Schuylkill County, Minersville, Pa. He married Mary Hopkins July 24, 1848 in St. Vincent De Paul Church in Minersville. They had 18 children some of which died at birth.
Thomas Prendergast was born in Ireland abt. 1823 and died 1888 in Schuylkill County, Minersville, Pa. His wife Mary Hopkins was born in Ireland abt. 1827 and died August 19, 1906 Germantown, Philadelphia, Pa.
Thomas and Mary had a son, Thomas Aloysius Prendergast born December 23, 1860, St. Vincent De Paul Church Minersville Pa. (My Great Grandfather).
Thomas A. Prendergast married Helen Theresa Kearney on August 4th, 1887, at St. Vincent's Church in Germantown, Philadelphia Pa. Helen was the daughter of Owen Kearney and Catherine Grimes both from Ireland also from Minersville, Pa. Thomas and Helen had four children one died at birth, the remaining children were Mary L. Prendergast (McCaffrey), Joseph T. Prendergast (my grandfather) and Irene Prendergast (Caldwell).
Martin Prendergast born 1793 in the Parish Braphy County Mayo Ireland married Mary(Conway) who was born 1782 in Ireland. They had a son Henry Prendergast who married Margaret (Knight), son Lawrence, son Martin, daughter Margaret. They immigrated to the United States on April 10, 1847 via the Ship Wyoming Port of arrival Philadelphia. I am not sure we are related to this "Prendergast Family". But there seems to be some correlations between both families based on the information I have obtained from St. Vincent De Paul Church in Minersville, Pa.
Specifically I am trying to find out anything prior to them coming to the United States.
Any information would be appreciated. I am willing to share the information that I have.
