Dr. Joseph William Pryor, son of William and Charity (Bynum or Holliday) Pryor, was born in Virginia, October 23, 1818, and died in Palmyra, MO, January 8, 1887.He grew to manhood in Virginia and was educated at Washington College, Lexington, VA, now Washington and Lee University.He went to what is now West Virginia in 1835 and engaged in teaching, but at nineteen years of age began the study of medicine.He entered Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati in 1840 and graduated in the spring of 1843.He returned to Kanawha County, now West Virginia, and began to practice, remaining there until about 1854, when he removed with his family to Palmyra, MO, where he settled permanently.In Palmyra, because of his successful practice and active interest in public affairs, Dr. Pryor was an outstanding citizen.In the fall of 1880 he was elected treasurer of Marion County and held office for many years.He was several times elected mayor of the city of Palmyra.He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church of Palmyra until their deaths, and Dr. Pryor was an elder of the church for more than thirty years.Dr. Pryor was also an active member of the Masonic Order, belonging to Lodge No. 18 of Palmyra, and a member of the Sons of Temperance.

B. E. S. Ely, died June 16, 1926, Samuel Frazer; and William, born at Palmyra, MO, June 16, 1868, married Belle Kinsey, died in 1920.
