I (g-g-grandson of Wm Amsterdam Reed) retired from the US Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC in 1990.. I live in southern Maryland near Laplata and have been in this area since 1960.I have sold my homebuilt airplane because of the flight restrictiions around the DC area and I no longer perform inairshows. Jim (grandson of Wm. Amsterdam Reed) and Lula(grand-daughter of Wm. Bird Cole) celebrating their 60 th wedding anniversary at Check, Va.They raised 5 boys. They were pioneers and lived very much as their parents did.They did not have indoor plumbing. Electricity did not come to their home until late in their lifetime. Coal oil lamps were used for lighting, a fire place for heating, a woodstove for cooking.The bathroom facility was an out house. A hand crank (party line) phone and a dinner bell was used for communications.
