"ILLNESS IS FATAL TO PAUL ROGERS
Paul Rogers, 49, whose business career started when he was a newsboy on
downtown Fort Worth streets, and ended with him as president of the company
before which he shouted his papers, died at 3 a. m. Wednesday in a Fort Worth
hospital after a long illness.
The president of the Pangburn Company and a civic and Masonic leader, first
was stricken three years ago, but continued active until last May, when his
illness compelled retirement from active duties in the firm which he had headed
since 1941.
Mr. Rogers, was born in Cleburne June 24, 1894.When he was about 13 he
engaged in his paper-selling venture in front of Pangburn's drug store across
from the old Texas and Pacific passenger station.
The late H. T. Pangburn, owner of the store, took a fancy to the red-haired,
freckled-faced youngster, and in 1908 he gave him a job as soda dispenser in
the drug store.Eight years later Mr. Rogers became assistant manager of
Pangburn's at Fourth and Houston, and later manager.In 1920 he was made
manager of Pangburn's Chocolate Shop and vice president of the company.He
went to the factory in 1928 as vice president and general manager of the
Pangburn Company and became its president in 1941.
Many Masonic honors were accorded Mr. Rogers.He was a past master of
W. W.Peavy Masonic Lodge, a member of Texas Chapter 362, Royal Arch Masons of
Worth Commandery No. 19, Knights Templar, of the Scottish Rite Bodies of
Dallas, Puissant Sovereign, St. Timothy's Conclave Red Cross of Constantine.
He was past potentate of Moslah Temple Shrine, A. A. O. N. M. S. and past
president of the Moslah Temple Patrol.He was a past director of Fort Worth
Court No. 32, Royal Order of Jesters.
He was a member of the Rotary, Exchange and Fort Worth Clubs, and was a
leader in many civic activities."
Paul Rogers died of lung cancer and had been a heavy cigarette smoker.

"'STUBBY' PARKER, FROZEN DRUMSTICK FOUNDER, DEAD
"Columbus, O. J. T. "Stubby" Parker, chairman of the board of directors of
Big Drum, Inc., and one of the founders of Frozen Drumstick County, now a division
of Big Drum, died here recently at the age of 68.
"Mr. Parker and his two brothers, I. C. and Bruce Parker, developed the
Frozen Drumstick and began its promotion in 1929.
"Since that time Mr. Parker led the growth of the company to its present
status as a world-wide corporation.
"Considered a pioneer in the development and promotion of the novelty
concept for ice cream manufacturers, Mr. Parker directed his company's
expansion from its original single product to a wide range of novelty items
which it has developed for automatic production.
"Since 1940 Mr. Parker's son, Thomas L. Parker, president of Big Drum, has
been associated with him in the company's operations.
"In addition to his son, Mr. Parker's survivors include his widow, Mrs
Gertrude Parker; two grandchildren, Rick and Pam Parker; his brothers, I. C.
and Barney B. Parker; two sisters, Mrs. Nelle Redfearn and Mrs. Vaudrine Neely:
and his mother, Mrs. Bascomb B. Parker.

Funeral Rites Are Set For Manufacturer
Funeral for J T (Stubby) Parker, 68, founder of the Frozen Drumstick County,
will be held at 11:00 A M, Tuesday at the First Community Church.
Parker, who resided at 2808 Doncaster Rd., died at Riverside Hospital
Saturday.
He was chairman of the board of Big Drum, Inc., manufacturers of ice cream
products and was a member of the First Community Church, Knights Templar,
Shrine in Fort Worth, Texas, Athletic Club and the Scioto Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; son, Thomas L., and his mother, Mrs
Bascom Parker.
Friends may call at the Schoedinger Funeral Home, 1740 Zollinger Rd., from 7
p m to 9 p m, Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p m Monday.
Entombment at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

BURIAL WILL BE IN GREEN LAWN FOR HEER SR.
Walter F. Heer Sr., 89, the Franklin County Democrat who served as county
chairman of his party for 32 years will be buried tomorrow in Green Lawn
Cemetery. He had suffered cancer for more than a year.
His body was found by a nurse yesterday in his home at 2808 Doncaster Road
in Upper Arlington.
In addition to his political work, Heer devoted 56 years of his life to
running the F. J. Heer County, a printing company his father founded in 1897.The
company now is National Graphics Corp., 724 Woodrow Ave.
From 1931 to 1963, Heer served as chairman of the county Democratic Party.
Heer followed his father, Fred J. Heer, as a party leader.The younger
Heer filled in for his ailing father as county chairman in 1932 and helped
elect Democrat George White as governor.
Heer, as county party chief, was instrumental in bringing Franklin D.
Roosevelt to Columbus in 1933.
Heer was an unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate in 1942.During the
campaign for that primary election, M. D. Portman, now Columbus City Council
president, met Heer at Democrat headquarters in Cleveland.
"Even though he was the leader of a political party, Walter Heer always put
the best interests of the community ahead of politics," Portman recalled.
"He was interested in the progress of the city-both physical and social
progress."
Heer got his first taste of business at his father's printing company, where
he went to work in 1912.After leaving the company in 1963, he devoted his
time to the growth of Central Savings & Loan, which he served as president.
He also served as president of First Central Corp. and was President of the
Ohio Savings & Loan League in the 1930's.
He was a member of numerous organizations, including the Columbus Athletic
Club, the President's Club of Ohio State University and the Columbus Club.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Parker Heer; sons Walter F. Heer Jr. of
Wildwood Fla., and Richard J. Heer of Columbus and a stepson, Thomas L. Parker.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a. m. tomorrow at Schoedinger Funeral
Service's Northwest Chapel1740 Zollinger Road.Pastor Werner W. Stuck of
Christ Lutheran Church will preside.
The family has asked friends to make donations to the Ohio State University
Cancer Institute.
