"Evidently the four young children of Benjamin and Hope (Huckens) Hamblen lived with their mother and step-father Ebenezer Childs, between 1719 and 1724 without a legal guardian having been appointed.And so, on 7 May 1724, Judge Otis appointed Joseph Hamblen of Barnstable, "to be legal guardian unto Hope Hamlin, a minor daughter to Benjamin Hamlin, late of sd Barnstable, now deceased, being about ten years," with similar wording for the daughter Rebeckah Hamlin "aged about 13 years.," and for the only son, Benjamin Hamblen (Barnstable Co. Prob. 4:186-190).The records show, also, that the widow Hope Hamblen had been appointed administratix of Benjamin Hamblen's estate, and her accounting was given in detail."

Benjamin Hamblin settled in Barnstable and he and his wife joined the church on 19 July 1714.He died in 1718 and his widow married Ebenezer Child in 1719.Benjamin's estate was settled on 6 April 1724.
