Mary changed the name of Roanpaa to Romberg around 1900.
Notes for JACOB HIETIKKO:
The name of Heittiko was changed to Hyde for easy use, and that he worked in the Copper mines in the U.P( See Rach Email 3/20/01)

8.FREDERICK ARTHUR⁴ ROMBERG (JOHAN³ROANPAA, ISAK², JOHAN¹) was born August 12, 1890 in Centennial Hts, Michigan (Calumet), and died October 21, 1956 in Republic,Michigan.He married ESTHER MARIE ENGBLOM June 01, 1922 in Calumet,Michigan, daughter of AUGUST NIKANDER and HILMA ENGBLOM.She was born August 04, 1900 in Helsinki ,Finland ¹, and died October 25, 1978 in Hancock, Michigan¹.
Notes for ESTHER MARIE ENGBLOM:
Esther was born August 4, 1900.According to church registers she was born in Helsinki.After her mother and Nikander were married in 1902, she joined the family.Her name was however kept as Engblom.The name of her father remains unknown.Esther Marie was baptized in 1915.About the 1919 emigration there is no record. She is just left out from the books.Family states she came to the United States as a governess around that time.

Notes for FREDERICK ALBERT ROMBERG:
Albert was killed in action, near Castel d'Aiano,Italy on April 14,1945.He was buried in a mass grave.His name appears on a plaque near the grave site.He was awarded the Bronze Starand the Silver Star posthumously.The citations are as follows:The Bronze star awarded"For heroic achievement in action on January 30, 1945, near Cutigliano, Italy.As his patrol was about to withdraw from a fierce fight in which it had become engaged, Private First Class Romberg, seeing a wounded comrade lying out in an exposed area, worked his way, together with another man, into the hazardous fire to relieve the wounded man.Finding it impossible to treat him under the terrific intensity of the barrage, Private First Class Romberg and his comrade courageously maneuvered to safety carrying the wounded man over one hundred yards of rugged, snow covered terrain.This great display of bravery and concern for the welfare of his comrades inspired all observers and sets a high standard for future conduct."Citation two reads, The Silver Star awarded " For gallantry in action on 14 April 1945, near Castel d" Aiano, Italy.When well-emplaced snipers held up the advance of an assault company and deadly mortar and artillary fire swept the immobilized men, Private First Class Romberg acted as first scout for a platoon sent around the flank to wipeout the hostile snipers.Advancing ahead of his comrades,he crept to within a short distance of a building which housed three snipers, who had been particularly effective in their fire.With no more cover available, he then rose to his feet and charged the emplacement.All hostile fire was directed at him, but he continued throwing grenades, killing all of the three snipers and enabling his company to advance.Inspired by his gallant deed, his comrades overran all enemy resistance and quickly secured their first objective.Private First Class Romberg, by his extreme heroism in the face of great danger to expedite the assault, has earned the undying memory of all who witnessed his splendid action, and perpetual commemoration in the finest traditions of the United States Army."

10.EDWARD FREDERICK⁴ ROMBERG (HENRIK VILHELM³ROANPAA, ISAK², JOHAN¹)He married FRANCES HARRIET LAGERTA MOWICK.She was born June 30, 1896 in Minneapolis, Minnesoda.
Notes for EDWARD FREDERICK ROMBERG:
Employed as a miner in Michigan, and then as a Ford worker at the Ford plant in Detroit.In 1919, he moved to Chicago, where he was employed until his death as a street car conductor.He died of pulmonary embolus following surgery.
