UPPER MOUTERE LUTHERAN CEMETERY
UPPER MOUTERE LUTHERAN CEMETERY 1867 - 1973
Situatedon the main road at the Upper Moutere village surrounding St. Paul’s LutheranChurch. In the Waimea County, approximately twenty miles from Nelson, on the Nelson – Motueka Inland Highway.
Recordswith the Lutheran Church Council.
Transcribedby Mrs M. K. Best.
Germaninscriptions checked and translated by Miss E. Heine.
Workbegun 16th January 1975, completed 1st Feb 1975.
Researchers please note that in some cases the Anglicizedversion of christian names appear on the headstones. Almost all persons in the German community had at least threechristian names, many had more, and frequently it would be the name by whichthey were known by, not necessarily their first given name, which would beused. The Gardiners Valley Cemetery(Upper Moutere Public) list should be associated with this, as the descendantsof some families, on breaking away from the Lutheran Church, have been buriedthere.
Someburials from newspaper extracts appear after title page. Not indexed.
