Russel Lamar (known as Lamar) 1912 in Lansford, PA, was the second child of Harry A. and Catherine (Baker) Stickler. He was baptized in the Lansford Methodist Church on 8 June 1913. Lamar grew up in Lansford and married Effie Mae Springer of Nesquehoning, PA in January 1934. Lamar & Effie had three children; Mary Louise, Carole, and Robin Lynn. He worked nine years as a miner. He also completed a three year curriculum in Coal Mining at the Pennsylvania State College Mineral Industries Extension Services (May 1948) and afterwards passed the examination for Assistant Mine Foreman (August 1948). He was a Pre-Med student at Bucknell College when he contracted pneumonia from which it was feared he might die. He worked as Assistant Mine Foreman for a while and was an inspector with General Electric CO, Allentown, PA for eighteen years before retiring. Lamar owned a lot on Holiday Pocono Lake, Albrightsville, PA. It was during a boat outing on the lake in June 1976 that he drowned attempting to retrieve a coat belonging to his daughter, Robin, which had blown into the water. Lamar was a member of the Lansford United Methodist Church of the Panther Valley Parish for 50 years and superintendent of its Sunday school, and a church trustee and treasurer. His wife, Effie, survived Lamar by six years. She was a member of the Lansford United Methodist Church and assistant organist for the Sunday School, as well as a matron of the Lansford Order of the Eastern Star, and served as treasurer for seventeen years.
