Cornelius Ringo brought his new wife back to the Crossroads in Amwell, where they were probably squeezed into the family section of Ringo's Old Tavern. There they could "make do" until he came into his father's bequest. In the meantime Margaret must have helped out around the
tavern, while Cornelius was out "skinning the cat" (traveling around the county with his tools to make shoes for the members of the various households).
By the time set for the transfer of the 25 acre tract, it must have become apparent to both the brothers, John ' and Cornelius, that this land was a necessary part of the tavern operation, better suited for that than for a parttime farmer with a growing family. There are no known deeds of transfer but in some legal manner the 25 acre tract became the possession of John Ringo, while Cornelius wound up with 18 acres and a house just a few hundred yards south of the tavern on the
road to Trenton.
On February 5th, 1761, when he witnessed the will of Johannes Housel, a close neighbor, he was probably living in his new home. Only a few months later on May 28th, 1761 his wife Margaret, gave birth to their first child, a boy, who bore the favorite name of the Ringo family John.
Their second child, Alburtis (better known as Burtis) was born on February 25th, 1763 at their home in Amwell.

A History of East Amwell (1700-1800), NJcompiled by East Amwell Bicentennial committee- p. 42 second paragraph reads:
Johannes Houshell (Howsell, Housilt, Houschilt) came to the Amwell Valley and purchased land south of Ringoes along the Old Youk Road in 1729 from Joseph Arney. The site of his house is unknown but may perhaps have existed where the magnificent brick house called the Queen of the Valley was later built at the turn of the century. Johannes died in 1761 and in his will dated February 5 and proven April 4, he left to his wife, Nelley, L10 to be paid to her by their sons Peter and William, and required they provide for their mother's future needs. He left the plantation "I now live on " and the house and lot he had purchased from his son-in-law, Andrew Trimmer, to his sons.In 1792, William Houshell, who apparently had purchased or inherited his brother's share of the plantation, sold the tract and moved to the Readington Township.Mathias and Jacob Househll, Johannes' two brothers were executors of his will.
