My family research focuses on the ancestors of mine and of my wife's.Mine (the Johann Jacob Schmid family) migrated in the late 1790s and early 1800s from Feldstetten, Germany, to Poland that was occupied by Russia at that time. While in Poland, the letter "t" was added to the Schmid name making it read Schmidt. In 1924 the Schmidt family members migrated to Waldersee, Manitoba, Canada. I have been able to record family data of the Schmidt family going back to 1700, Daniel Schmid being the one of that date. My wife's ancestors, the Gross family, are from Oberdorla, Germany. From here her great-grandfather Johann Michael Gross migrated to Quincy, Illinois,in the 1856.In 1865 he returned to Oberdorla, Germany, to marry a 19-year-old bride, Fanny Triebel. Shortly after the wedding they both came to Quincy, Illinois, where they lived the rest of their lives. I have been able to find and record the Gross family's data back to Hermann Gross who was born in 1684.
