N O T E#2: - "(William) would then have married his wife, Sarry, about the period of 1764.I speculate that Sara [sic] (Sarah) was a BARNETT; however, she could also have been an ALLEN or MARTIN, since these become common in our line of the family.If she was an ALLEN, the will of William ALLEN seems to prove that she was not a daughter of his.I have heard that the CHASTAIN family of Washington County, Indiana was closely related to the BARNET T family.The only record of Sary I have found is the 1791 o1 note filed with the marriage record of Valentine CHASTAIN.It is my opinion that William and Sary died in Franklin County, Virginia in the 1790s.There is no will or deed record for either William or Sary.The other members of the CHASTAIN family left Franklin County for Kentucky mostly during the period 1801 to 1803.In the various public records and census records that I have studied after they left Virginia, I have never noticed any reference to William or Sarah.Census records also indicate that they never had any older parents living with them that could have been William or Sary.It should also be noted that when Malinda (Linny) CHASTAIN was married in Franklin County in February of 1795she evidently wrote the note to the Clerk of the County herself.Since records indicate that she would not have been of age at this time it seems odd that her parents, if living, did not sign the note at least.- SOURCE # 1, p 41
