Notes for Michael Hoyte:Michael ws born the the 1500s in England.Robert Bush an English researcher feels that Michael may be the son of a Thomas Hoyett of Seavington St. Mary.Thomas mentioned a son named Michael when he wrote his will in November of 1576.If this is true then Michael was probably born in Seavington St. Mary which is about eight or nine miles south east of West Hatch in Somersetshire.
There is a baptism for a Thamson daughter of a Michaell Hoytt on March 11, 1581 at South Petherton in Somersetshire.South Petherton is about three mile north east of Seavington St. Mary.This may be our Michael Hoyt be cause he is recorded as having a daughter named Thomasine in 1599 in West Hatch.
The first firm record of Michael Hoyt is at West Hatch in 1599.On July 18, 1599 Michael Hoyte came to the Manor Court of West Hatch to claim one tenement containg one fardell (An archaic measure of land appearently equal to seven acres) of land and meadow on old auster previously held by John Pyne.He requested it be held in his name and his sons Simon and Richard.He paid £7 10s of the £10 entry fine whith the rest to be paid at the next accouting.He was also resposible for scouring and ditching of the lord's rivers and other services.Michael, Simon and Richard were admitted tenants and did fealty.Michael and his sons also received another tenement containing half a fardell of land.Michael's daughters Anne [or Anna], Thomasine and Elizabeth made claims of reversion on the same tenements.They were admitted tenants in reversion and did fealty as well.
Michael is recorded as serving many offices at the Manor and Hallimote courts from 1601 to 1620.He was particularlly active on the homage jury.The homage jury reported to the court on misdemeanours and deaths of tenants since the last court.On October 10, 1616 Michael Hoyte at the Halimote court surrenderd his tenements to his son Simon.
It is thought that Michael may have had two wives.His first wife's name is not known nor is it known what children she is the mother of.His second wife was named Agnes.After 1620 we have no record of Michael until he was buried at West Hatch on January 29, 1623/4.
